The 2011 RTE weather calendar will be distributed with the weekly RTE Guide which goes on sale next Monday.
The calendar features the work of amateur photographers who submit their photographs to a quarterly competition, so that the selection of images varies with each season. The photographs are reviewed by RTÉ Graphic Design and production staff and a series of winners chosen for each quarter before being shown at the beginning of each broadcast weather forecast.
Once a year all the winning photographers assemble in RTÉ at an exhibition of their work, and presentations are made to seasonal and annual winners.
An RTE spokesperson: “Many viewers have asked about these powerful and dramatic images so, to give another outlet to the talent of Ireland’s wonderful amateur photographers, RTÉ commenced, in 2002, the production of a calendar which featured a month-by-month selection.”
“The photographic record represented in the calendar reminds us all of the exquisite natural beauty that surrounds us – in all weathers”, added the spokesperson.
